New Year - New Building!

24/1/2015

We spent a lot of time and effort meeting with 3 different construction companies and going over several plans with multiple revisions. After meeting onsite with a civil engineer and getting a 2nd opinion, we have finalized the plans for Phase 1 which will consist of a 2054 sqft block with a dormitory, kitchen and toilets. The cost of SGD38,000 (USD28,000) will also provide a foundation and structure which will allow a second level to be added in future!

As of today, we have raised SGD20,000 and need another SGD18,000 to start construction. This building will make a huge difference to the lives of the children. To find out more about the building project and contribute, please click here.

Testimony:  Faith to Faith

The fruit of silence is prayer
The fruit of prayer is faith
The fruit of faith is love
The fruit of love is service
The fruit of service is peace
- Mother Teresa

Mother’s prayer sums up my entire experience in India. God judges the heart, and he looks at the fruits of our lives. Running a children’s programme, sharing a testimony or even teaching the Bible are gifts given by God, and should be used for His Kingdom’s purposes.

Personally, I’ve learned that even though these activities are important, what is more important is the fruit that I produce. Am I doing these things because it has become a routine for me or am I doing it out of faith and love? If I am doing it out of faith and love, why do I struggle to pray? Through this trip, God has shown me that faith is important as much as love is. Faith can only be strengthened through intimacy with Him, and intimacy comes both from reading His Word and from prayer.

Before this trip, I have to admit that I struggled to be intimate with him. I go through the motion when reading the Word and when praying. My faith was weak. When I prayed for the men, women, and children, I struggled to believe that God would answer those prayers. I doubted many times.

However, my faith has been strengthened over the past few days in India. God has shown me that in order for me to have faith, I have to pray. In order to desire prayer, I have to first start by asking Him to give me that desire. Today, I have a greater desire to pray, and I thank God for that!

We have Possessed the Promised Land! (By Ps Karen Gan)

Landing in Vijayawada towards the end of July, our team of 5 visited the Champion Kids Home and School. We were again greatly blessed by our time with the children. You can see from the pictures how some of them have grown! They always look happy even though they have little. And that's a blessing to our hearts always!

We were joined by Sarah, a pre-school teacher from Singapore and Dani who recently graduated from Bible College together with her mum Ibu Agung from Indonesia. As we started out with introducing the team, something dawned upon me: AFTER YEARS OF DREAMING AND PRAYING, CHAMPIONKIDS HAS FINALLY ENTERED INTO OUR PROMISED LAND! And tears began to well up in my eyes as I remembered God's faithfulness. At the same time, as Sarah and Dani started sharing, they were also moved to tears and could not hold them back as the Holy Spirit started stirring up compassion and love for these children. They then taught them songs, Scripture and games....What an afternoon! Check out the joy on their faces! :D

Yes, although the school has now moved to the ½ acre plot purchased last year, ChampionKids still does NOT have a school building. At the moment there is a structure that has been constructed which consists of a shed and storeroom, but is now temporarily being used as a classroom and boys quarters. So currently all 10 classes have to share a shed which is only about half the size of a typical classroom in Singapore! The shed itself has just 1 wall with a sheeted metal roof! (See picture below)
Picture
The boys (half of the 50 children) are living in the storeroom joined to the shed (see picture above: the room with no door and no window and the ventilation holes in the walls--that's the bedroom of ALL the boys). Most of you who read this would say the room is a comfortable size for 4 beds, but there are over 20 boys squeezed into it. Meanwhile, having no room for the girls, they are staying in a small rented hut on the adjacent plot of land until a home can be built for them. All 50 children and 10 staff are also sharing 1 bathroom and toilet, something unimaginable for many of us!

So right now, we are hoping to start with PHASE 1 of the construction of the 1 Dormitory and Kitchen and 1 Toilet which will cost approximately SGD 50,000. And we really do hope to raise the funds to build adequate dormitories for all the children which will cost another SGD 50.000! Please prayerfully consider contributing to help put a roof over their heads and build good bath and sanitation facilities for the children.

Thank you for your heart for the poor and continued prayers and support towards children through your giving! God bless you and please keep in touch!

Psalm 41:1-3
Blessed is he who considers the poor;

The Lord will deliver him in time of trouble.
The Lord will preserve him and keep him alive,
And he will be blessed on the earth;
You will not deliver him to the will of his enemies.
The Lord will strengthen him on his bed of illness;
You will sustain him on his sickbed.

Testimony: What I Learnt & Experienced in India

Champion Kids with DaniDani with some of the Champion Kids!

I really thank GOD for the wonderful opportunity to go for a mission trip to India. It was a divine team God appointed with beloved brother and sisters Ps Jason, Ps Karen, Sarah, my Mum and I. I have always wanted to go on a mission trip since I was in University. It has been one of the deepest desires in my heart and God made a way! It has truly been an amazing and humbling experience for me. This is my first mission trip and it has changed the way I see life and people.

Every single place that we went (Bangalore, Vijayawada and Chennai), as we saw the condition there, the people in the streets, God was speaking to me and tearing my heart with HIS love. Everywhere you go, you just sense that the people need God. I felt such a strong compassion for GOD’s love to flow in their lives. They need Jesus. Who would go?

I would love to share one of the experiences I had and will never forget. It was when we were visiting the Champion Kids School at Vijayawada. As we travelled in the car, we prayed together and began to speak blessings for every child. I was so excited to see them. When we arrived, I didn’t know around 50 children were already there waiting for us. The moment I saw them, my heart was just full of joy unspeakable. As Ps Karen started to introduce the team, I was trying to hold back my tears back because it was so overwhelming to finally meet them. When I looked in their eyes, Holy Spirit was like showing me how each of them individually are so precious, special and beautiful little children of the most high God. I began to cry. The cry was a cry of joy from heaven and full of thanksgiving. I just could not hold back the tear as I couldn’t take it anymore. Words cannot describe it when you meet the children there. Some of them might have no mum, dad or parents, or maybe their parents do not have the means to care for them. As I reflected on my own life, I felt so blessed and grateful to have a family that loves and takes good care of me, and even more since Jesus has came to my life! I felt the Holy Spirit awakening  me to arise to go out and tell of HIS grace and love that is available to all of us.

As Sarah and I taught them songs of worship and empowered them with God’s word, I was saying to myself I am actually the one here learning so many things from the little children at Champion Kids.  I learned to have the faith like a child, to not worry, have a genuine heart, purity in love, and a heart that is always grateful. It is amazing and that is what God honors and is looking for. I felt such a strong presence of God’s love during the time we spent with the Champion Kids. Time went so fast and I’m praying that I would be able to go back and meet them again!

Also, in Chennai when we attended the International Childrens’ Intercession Conference (ICIC), wow! I was amazed to see the children come and gather as one powerfully praying for one another, families and nations. This is the way it must be, GOD can use anyone especially the little children.

I believe it is God’s heart as it says in Malachi 4:6 “turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of their children to their hearts.” Thank You so much Father for the mission trip, YOU are the only hope for humanity, Jesus is the hope of the world! Let’s keep on shining for HIS glory!

Laying the Foundations of Many Generations

CONTRIBUTE TO BUILD THE SCHOOL & HOME of CHAMPION KIDS!
Picture
On 30 January 2013 we had a ground-breaking ceremony on the recently purchased half acre plot and will be starting construction of the home and school soon! We believe that ministry in Vijayawada for the orphanage should become self-sustaining and will get going on cultivating the land. Though income is minimal, it is important to utilize the land until sufficient funds are raised for construction.
Isa 58:12 Those from among you shall build the old waste places;You shall raise up the foundations of many generations; And you shall be called the Repairer of the Breach,The Restorer of Streets to Dwell In.
