Update (Jan 2013):
We've bought the land! Because of your faithful support, we were able to buy the 1/2 acre plot of land that is very suitable for the children's future school in Jan 2013. We are now done with Pre-Phase 1 of the Build-A-School Project (a simple shed and storage space which houses the boys and classrooms temporarily; girls are still in rented facility). So right now, we are hoping to launch the building project! And we really do hope to raise the funds to build the whole school and home for all the children which will cost approximately a total of USD 100,000! Please prayerfully consider contributing to help put a roof over their heads and build good bath and sanitation facilities for the children. Update (Jan 2015): After meeting with 3 different construction companies and civil engineers and going over several plans with multiple revisions, we have finalized the plans for the next phase of building. Phase 1 will consist of a 2054 sqft block with a dormitory, kitchen and toilets at a cost of SGD38,000. The foundation and structure will also allow a second level to be added in future. You can support this project by sending a cheque to Youth TransformNations Limited (indicate "ChampionKids School project") at My Singpost Box 880208 Singapore 919191 or for your convenience, click here to contribute online now! Together, let's continue to change lives! Will you help us build their future? Pre- Phase 1 completed: A simple shed and storage space which houses the boys and classrooms temporarily; girls are still in rented facility
Yes, although the school has now moved to the ½ acre plot purchased last year, ChampionKids still does NOT have a school building. At the moment there is a structure that has been constructed which consists of a shed and storeroom, but is now temporarily being used as a classroom and boys quarters. So currently all 10 classes have to share a shed which is only about half the size of a typical classroom in Singapore! The shed itself has just 1 wall with a sheeted metal roof! (See picture) The boys (half of the 50 children) are living in the storeroom joined to the shed (see picture above: the room with no door and no window and the ventilation holes in the walls--that's the bedroom of ALL the boys). Most of you who read this would say the room is a comfortable size for 4 beds, but there are over 20 boys squeezed into it. Meanwhile, having no room for the girls, they are staying in a small rented hut on the adjacent plot of land until a home can be built for them. All 50 children and 10 staff are also sharing 1 bathroom and toilet, something unimaginable for many of us! |
